Horseback
Riding

The 3B Stables at Triple B Ranch offers both guided and unguided trail rides, whether you have your own horse or not.  Children just need to be at least four feet tall.  If they don't meet the height requirements, there are arena rides for all ages.  There are also Wrangler Meals for those in search of a hot, cowboy-style morning meal.  If morning isn't your time of day, there is also a steak dinner ride available.  The Triple B Ranch is a working horse ranch that also offers riding lessons, training, breeding and boarding.  You can also stay in one of their cabins overnight if you wish.  Their rates vary from $25 to $200 and hours vary, depending on the season.
The Academy Riding Stables are a great place for wedding carriages, surreys, hayrides and pony rides.  They offer guided horseback trail rides through the Garden of the Gods.  There are 22 miles of trails to explore red rock formations, wildlife and several species of plants, wildflowers and trees.  There are one and two hour tours available and, in the fall, winter and spring, a three hour tour is added along the perimeter of the Garden of the Gods.  The trail rides are offered for anyone over 8 years of age and under 250 pounds, due to insurance restrictions.  As the only stables authorized by the City of Colorado to give trail rides in the Garden of the Gods, the Academy Riding Stables offer a unique opportunity to explore the area just like the cowboys and pioneers did many years ago.  Rates vary from $9.95 to $70 and they are open daily from 9am-5pm.  They are, however, closed on Thanksgiving and Christmas Day.
Adventures Out West Horseback Riding offers team-building programs that can accommodate up to 25 people.  They hold corporate events as well as chuck wagon cookouts.  The M Lazy C Ranch is located at about 9000 feet in the Colorado Rockies and is surrounded by a pine forest and spectacular views.  Your evening can include: jeep tours, horseback riding, wagon rides, cowboy shooting range, hay bucking contests, cow tic-tac-toe, buckin' barrels, calf roping, cowboy golf, campfire and music.  Rates vary from $33 per person for a 1 hour tour to $53 per person for a 2 hour tour and is open daily from 8am-6pm.
Chico Basin Ranch holds artist gatherings, art exhibits, cowboy camps, educational workshops and horsemanship clinics.  Guest overnight packages include all meals, transportation to/from the COS airport for $40/person roundtrip with a $100 minimum, private ranch home and unlimited activities.  Chico Basin Ranch is an 87,000 working cattle ranch that offers educational, hands-on learning for beginners to veterans.  Cattle are worked daily, herds are moved as well as sorting and feeding the animals.  The Box T Cowboy Camp cattle drive expedition is also offered by Chico Basin Ranch to a limited number of guests.  Times and availability are limited so check back regularly.
The Colorado Adventures-Horseback Riding Tours offers rides in the San Isabel National Forest and the Collegiate Peaks wilderness area.  Rides are offered daily from May through Labor Day.  Their guided horseback rides include multiple creek and bridge crossings along with majestic views of the Colorado Rocky Mountains.  Traverse the Colorado Trail from Denver to Durango.
The Mule Creek Outfitters/M Lazy C Ranch offers everything from a one hour trail ride for guests of all ages in the Pike National Forest to a 5-day pack trip in the Lost Creek Wilderness.  They offer chuck wagon dinners, hay and wagon rides, carriage rides, cattle drives, cowboy shooting range, fly fishing trips, RV sites/horse camping and guest cabins/lodging and much, much more.
North Cheyenne Canon Park offers several trails throughout the park for equestrians: Captain Jacks (1.2 miles in the park, 2.25 miles in Pike National Forest), Columbine (four miles from the Starsmore Discovery Center) and Stratton Open Space (loops only, paths are for foot traffic).  It is important to keep in mind that you are in black bear and mountain lion country.  Black bear and mountain lions are most active at dawn and dusk, but black bear may be active at anytime searching for food prior to hibernation.  A mountain lion is attracted to things that are going fast, are small and make high pitched screaming noises.  Keep small children near you and do not let them run ahead or lag behind.  You can reduce your chances of surprising a bear or mountain lion by talking loudly, singing or wearing a bell.  Keep all dogs on a leash.  Take any garbage with you or leave in a bear-proof trash can.  Avoid berry patches in the fall.
The Stables at the Broadmoor are located in the Pike Peak National Forest mountains.  This offers a unique horseback riding experience within minutes of the city.  For children under 7 years old, there are pony rides available as well as a variety of small animals in the petting zoo.  Groups can ride, eat and be entertained by the chuck wagon.  There are horsedrawn carriages available as well.  A one hour trail ride is $30, a two hour trail ride is $50.  They are open from April to October from 9am-4pm.
